The Cat in the Hat was taking a literacy lesson as Snow White knuckled down to her studies. This surreal scenario unfolded at a Armley school when it joined in World Book Day.
Staff and pupils from Holy Family Primary took inspiration from their favourite book characters to transform their school.

Older pupils read to younger ones, while all lessons had a strong literacy dimension. Miss Thompson came as Dr Seuss's Cat in the Hat, while head Pauline O'Connor donned rags to become Cinderella for the day.
World Book Day (on Thursday) is supported by more than 100 countries. It originated in Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts on St George's Day – the region's patron saint.
Other World Book Day events include a readathon which has raised over £1m for children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation.
Other initiatives include Quick Reads, aimed at adults with reading difficulties. Written by bestselling authors and personalities, they cost £1.99. A new series includes books by superchef Gordon Ramsay, Olympic athlete Colin Jackson and Dr Who author Terrance Dicks.
