An Armley school which has caught the Olympic spirit has continued its programme of events with a cycle ride along
the Leeds to Liverpool Canal to Rodley Nature Reserve.
Organised by pupils from Whingate Primary School, the two-wheeled adventure is part of Spirit Alive, a city-wide school-led
initiative to link learning and the Olympics in the build-up to the Beijing Olympics games which starts on August 8 and the London 2012 Olympics.

Ten pupils each from Whingate Primary, Five Lanes Primary, St Bartholomews Primary, Castleton Primary, Armley Primary, Wortley High, and West Leeds High were joined by staff and residents to launch the programme of events.

Stuart Myers, headteacher at Whingate Primary School, said: "Following the success of the pilot scheme of Spirit Alive in 2007, we were keen to be involved again this year.

"It allows our young people to take the lead on a series of events both fun and educational."
