Armley schoolchildren turn mini-cops

Youngsters from an Armley primary school turned mini-cops for the day on a visit to a local police station.
The group of 25 Year 6 pupils from Christ Church Upper Armley CofE School were invited on a tour of Pudsey Police station as part of ongoing work by the police to forge strong links with local communities.

The station is home to the West Inner and West Outer neighbourhood policing teams, who between them serve communities from Armley to Calverley.

Youngsters question a 'member of the public' watched by PCs Dave Hardaker and Lynne Kitchingman.The youngsters got dressed up in police uniforms and met officers from a range of departments.

They were given their own daily briefing and then 'patrolled' the station taking part in a variety of scenarios, including investigating a mock crime scene.

The event was organised by Youth & Schools Officers, PCs Dave Hardaker and Lynne Kitchingman.

PC Hardaker said: "The group were really enthusiastic and asked lots of questions. There is no doubt they enjoyed the visit, especially taking part in the scenarios."

Year six teacher, Cat Hardcastle, said "We had only asked the police to come to school and give a short talk, so the children were really excited when we were actually invited to go to the police station."

Inspector Mark Bownass, of the West Inner NPT, said: "We are hoping to open up the police station to even more young people next to build on the good work that is already being done in schools and communities."
