Armley's councillors have answered a cry for help from a little girl who attends the after-school club at New Wortley Community Centre.
Ten-year-old Hannah Nicole Ryder recently wrote to Councillor Jim McKenna to ask for help after the group's trampoline was stolen by thieves.

In her letter she explained that the break in had really upset the children who regularly attend the after-school club, and had left them with no outdoor play equipment.

Damage was also done to the group's swings, slide and climbing frame during the break in.

The Armley Councillors have pledged to donate £400 from their community funds to pay for a new trampoline.

Councillor Jim McKenna (Armley) said: "I was saddened to hear of the break in at New Wortley Community Centre. After reading Hannah's letter; I spoke to my ward colleagues Alison Lowe and Janet Harper and we all agreed we would do what we could to help them replace their lost equipment.

"After-school clubs like the one Hannah goes to are vital to our community and are also great fun for those who attend them. It would be a real shame if we let a few rogue individuals ruin something that brings so much pleasure to so many people."

Coun McKenna added: "I am delighted that we have been able to help towards the cost of a new trampoline. I hope it will prove to be as much of a hit with the kids as the previous one. Hopefully some other people will be able to donate some equipment, I am sure this will help the centre to get back to normal in no time."
