Teenagers have made a video promoting the tourist delights of Armley.
It focuses on attractions in the Armley community such as the local chippie and golf course.

The video is entitled Top of the World and came about as a result of a partnership between local arts organisation Interplay, which works with disaffected young people, and the Youth Offending Service in Leeds.

Interplay's former Community Director Sally Fletcher and freelance film maker Will Docherty worked on a ten-week film project with the young people.

They wanted to produce a film about something they knew a lot about and said Armley seemed the obvious choice.

Initially the film focused on the negative aspects of the area, but they turned this around and made it more tongue-in cheek, like a 1980s promotional video.

The film highlights all that is unique about Armley, including its people, place names and local landmarks such as Mike's Carpets and Gott's Park.

There is even a lesson in how to speak the local lingo.

Katie Dunne, 18, took part in the film. She used to live in Armley and attended St Mary's High School in Menston.

"It doesn't look very appealing, but I really enjoyed living there, and had lots of mates," she said.

Other youngsters who worked on the film are Glen Wood, Jade Walker, Ryan Thaxter, Jack Parle and Eli Robertson.

Jo Mollitt, Education Officer with the Youth Offending Service said: "The group involved in this project were not necessarily young offenders but they did have a history of non-attendance at school.

"The project was designed to help them develop new skills and hopefully return to education or move on to further training."
